We are pleased to announce that Victoria ISD has been named a District of Distinction by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) for the sixth consecutive year.
This distinction is awarded to districts that meet or exceed the criteria of a comprehensive 14-point rubric. The rubric examines the district's visual arts program from participation in TAEA through membership, exhibits, contests, and community engagement in the visual arts through field experiences, community service, and collaboration with other content areas.
Over 1,200 districts and learning institutions in Texas were eligible to apply for this award through TAEA. This year, 96 of those districts met the high standard and received this honor for the 2023-2024 school year, placing their visual art program in the top 5.5% of visual art programs in Texas.
Among the 96 districts honored, VISD stands out as one of the 16 that has achieved this award for six consecutive years, every year it has been available. This puts VISD in the top 1.3% of all Visual Art Programs in the State!
“I am so honored to work with the dedicated Teachers and Students who are flourishing at campuses from elementary up through high school,” said David Edge, Director of Fine Arts at VISD. “TAEA has set a standard for the State of Texas that VISD is achieving every year. Over 5000 students a week get to experience project-based learning, creativity in action, and time management skills that directly translate into all subjects in school and into life!”
TAEA is the leading advocate for the visual arts in the state. The organization has previously honored outstanding TAEA members for work in their classrooms and districts. This is the sixth year that TAEA is honoring districts that meet rigorous criteria as evidenced by data.
